Woodwork & oak Beams
Woodwork overview
Blast-cleaning woodwork is a very skilled job which could be freshening up ad bringing out the natural colour of the wood. It can also be used for removing paint off the wood work surface again to bring the wood to its natural form. Using the correct abrasive is crucial to ensure the woods face isn’t damaged, a lot of oak beams are usually found inside barn conversions.

Why blast clean woodwork?
One of the most transformative applications of blast-cleaning woodwork lies in its ability to freshen up older pieces, almost as if turning back the clock. Over time, wood can lose its vibrancy due to various factors—weather, aging, or external coatings.
Through skillful blast-cleaning, one can bring out the wood’s inherent, natural colour. It’s like unearthing hidden treasure, revealing a richness that might have been concealed for years.
Another dimension of blast-cleaning woodwork focuses on removing paint layers. Whether it’s an old furniture piece or a wooden artifact, stripping off the paint can transform it, taking the wood back to its genuine, organic form.
Will this damage the woodwork?

James Harrison Sam did a great job sandblasting some beautiful old and fragile cast iron gutters. He was flexible on the timing of the job as we had to work around when the gutters could be brought down to the ground which had to be rescheduled. He worked on a weekend so I could paint the gutters before they went back up. Most importantly he did a great job getting the old paint off without damaging the gutters and had good advice on how to proceed (quickly!) with the primer. Very good job! Thanks Sam. Rachel Holcroft I’d highly recommend SET sandblasting Ltd . From start to finish, Sam is professional, enthusiastic and, you know he just loves what he does. He’s got so much knowledge and really understands what’s needed as well as being such a lovely, down to earth guy. There are some rogues out there but with SET sandblasting, you know that your project is in safe hands . 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Noelle Dunkerley If ever a 5* review was earned, it is this one for SET Sandblasting Sam came to look at my job on time, quoted me quickly and competitively. Due to other works being done on the house, at the same time, which were weather dependant and with unpredictable weather forecast Sam jumped on and off to suit, possibly frustrating for him but he never let us down. Sam came back to do some internal blasting on beams, over window lintels and a section of bare stone wall so that we could have a ‘feature’. Every time he comes, there is something magnificent he reveals and he always, always cleans up after. Not only does he do a great job, he has an eye for beautiful buildings, sees potential where possibly others can’t and has the experience of an old timer though still a young man. Also bags of knowledge, a list of contacts the length of his arm but more than anything else, he takes pride in his work. On top of that Sam is trustworthy and a genuinely nice guy. I would highly recommend SET Sandblasting Anna Cunningham Yet another fabulous job! Everyone thinks I'm mad getting internal stone walls sandblasted while actually living in the house but S.E.T not only do an excellent job, they also keep the dust to the absolut minimum whilst still having an eye for detail and leaving everywhere as clean as possible. Sam is knowledgeable and very professional and, as a result, I'm sure my latest job won't be the last! Darren Briggs We've used Sam several times over the years and would highly recommend him. The house is very old and needs treating with respect, he's worked on old oak beams, stone and stone mullions, new oak, cast iron guttering and cast iron radiators and the results have been amazing every time. He's able to do site work and also can take items away and they come back like new. Customer service is brilliant, he's reliable and does a fantastic job at a good price. Andrew Crutchley Sam recently sandblasted the stonework on our house renovation and we couldn't be happier with the results. Excellent service all round. We would highly recommend Sam. Andrew & Karen Sarah Carroll I contacted Sam about a year ago about my beams he came round a few times to advise on how best to take off the years of black paint. Nothing was too much trouble, we then had a long wait as the beams had got wet during the build. When the beams were dry enough we had already plastered so Sam was very careful to minimise the damage to the plaster work. For me it was a big decision how best to improve the look of my beams. Sam was great and I am so happy with the results, could not recommend him and his work high enough! Martin Everill Great service, good communication all the way through the process. Very professional service, I can highly recommend the service. 👍 colin harrison Sam recently shot blasted my 200 year old barn conversion. He has completely transformed the outside walls. We didn’t know the colours in the stones were as beautiful as they now look. I would not hesitate in recommending Sam for any shot blasting needs. Colin H. James Peters Sam did a great job sandblasting a stone fireplace surround, two painted wooden beams and some stone window mullions. Came when he said he would, did the job quickly and without any fuss, and was very straightforward to deal with. The price was reasonable as well. Would highly recommend!Load more
